In this article, we present the noble verses that mention visions and dreams. Visions and dreams are considered an important matter in Islamic creed, as evidenced by their mention in numerous places in the Holy Quran. Surah Yusuf (peace be upon him) can be regarded as a chapter specifically dedicated to the subject of visions, their interpretation, and their fulfillment.
This underscores the necessity for a Muslim to pay attention to and value this blessing that Allah the Almighty has granted to His servants as a form of glad tidings or warning. How fortunate is the Muslim who reflects upon this gift and benefits from it in their life and the rectification of their conduct.
1 - A truthful vision that brought glad tidings to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) of victory in the Battle of Badr :
﴾ [Remember, O Muhammad], when Allah showed them to you in your dream as few; and if He had shown them to you as many, you [believers] would have lost courage and would have disputed in the matter [of whether to fight], but Allah saved [you from that]. Indeed, He is Knowing of that within the breasts. ﴿
(Al-Anfal 43)
2 - Prophet Joseph (peace be upon him) and his vision of the sun, moon, and stars prostrating to him :
﴾ [Of these stories mention] when Joseph said to his father, "O my father, indeed I have seen [in a dream] eleven stars and the sun and the moon; I saw them prostrating to me." He said, "O my son, do not relate your vision to your brothers or they will contrive against you a plan. Indeed Satan, to man, is a manifest enemy. And thus will your Lord choose you and teach you the interpretation of narratives and complete His favor upon you and upon the family of Jacob, as He completed it upon your fathers before, Abraham and Isaac. Indeed, your Lord is Knowing and Wise." ﴿
(Joseph 4-6)
3 - Prophet Yusuf (peace be upon him) interprets the dreams of his two prison companions :
﴾ And there entered the prison with him two young men. One of them said, "Indeed, I have seen myself [in a dream] pressing wine." The other said, "Indeed, I have seen myself carrying upon my head [some] bread, from which the birds were eating. Inform us of its interpretation; indeed, we see you to be of those who do good." ﴿
(Joseph 36)
﴾ O two companions of prison, as for one of you, he will give drink to his master of wine; but as for the other, he will be crucified, and the birds will eat from his head. The matter has been decreed about which you both inquire."
(Joseph 41)
